Ferndale Subdivision Maps of 1876 – 1901
There exist 8 original subdivision maps from this period. Ferndale
was first settled in 1852 and most of early city streets and lots were surveyed
and described in a Metes and Bounds fashion. The first filed map was for Port
Kenyon drawn in 1876 by A.T. Smith. The last was the Tyrrell Addition drawn in
1901 by J. A. Shaw. It would be another 77 years before the next subdivision
map was filed.
There are also 2 maps covering the overall City of Ferndale.
The city incorporated in 1893 and as a condition of incorporation was probably
required by the state to prepare a City Map. There exists a map entitled “Map
of Ferndale” dated 1889 by J. N. Lentell showing all the streets, blocks and
lots of the city at that time. However this map has few dimensions and no
monuments. Another map also entitled “Map of Ferndale” and dated 1895 by J. A.
Shaw was filed with more information, including street widths and monument
