Gurley Transit
This is a typical Surveyor's transit manufactured by the Gurley Company in New York and used throughout the United States in the mid to late 1800's.

Gunter Chain
This chain was used to measure distances in the 1800's. It is 66 feet long and is made up of 100 links. The length of 66 feet had several purposes. For example, 80 chains = 1 mile. Additionally, 10 square chains = 1 acre.
