Survey Photos

With modern technology, this backpack holds everything needed to conduct a remote survey. A BLM section corner that has been protected with a metal collar.

Humboldt County is dotted with large redwood stumps. These trees were blazed as bearing trees by early GLO surveyors. Often it is only the stump that now remains.

This section corner is monumented by a square concrete post, typical of the many monuments set by Joseph Shaw throughout Ferndale.
A GPS receiver set on a NGS control point dutifully watched over by our survey dog, Riikka. As a surveyor, I tell myself, "I could go through this pasture, or I could go around it." Hmmm. I think I'll go around.
